Course: Pilot Bay to Karewa return
Karewa is located 14km North West from Pilot Bay & directly north
east off the shore of Matakana. Karewa was traditionally used to harvest
mutton bird, & in 1878 the steamer "Taranaki" ran into the island
in which its remnants a large boiler from the ships engines remain on
the Northern side. The islands beauty is enhanced by the abundant marine
life, large boulders with flat edges and a sandy bottom.

The Mauao Ocean Hoe is on hold this year, but returning to you is the Revival of Karewa. This Ocean Hoe was a regular training ground for club members & a major Annual Race. More information
